Anxiety, worry and doubt…lions, tigers and bears, oh my.

This is such a normal part of life these days. Nothing has changed really, for centuries people have worried about one thing or another. As we evolve and as we add things to our lives, our anxieties, worries and doubts seem to pile up. They are just really changing and evolving with us as we add or subtract activities and even wonder about all of them.

The effects of anxiety, worry and doubts in our mind can drive all our thoughts. These thoughts can interfere with our daily life. They can also take a toll on our emotional and physical wellbeing. The chronic effects of worry could lead to generalized anxiety disorder, which is a real thing that involves nervousness, unease and the tension we experience in life.

There are good things about anxiety, worry and doubt. They help us as we navigate our lives in what might seem like a complicated world. We need to take time to discover practical ways to help us through these moments that seem to consume our thoughts.

Developing the skills we need to adapt when these thoughts take over our lives helps us to navigate the life God made for us. In the Gospel of Matthew (11:28-30) we discover God asking us to ‘Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give your rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

When we “Cast all your anxiety on him…” (1 Peter 5:7) we discover how God cares for us as we journey in the world of anxiety, worry and doubt. But the Bible is filled with verses that can help us navigate this anxious and worrisome world. We just have to be willing to seek him who comforts us.
