When you are with someone, you need to remember that you are ‘the guest in their life’.

I often use this thought in my homilies on Sunday.

When we visit someone’s home, we often bring a gift, to thank them for the invitation in to their homes. As we enter someone’s life, the only gift we may have to offer is our ability to exhibit mercy. kindness and grace.

As we enter their life, we have no idea what they are going through. We have no idea what they may have just experienced. We do not know what issues they are facing that day or any day.

Our kindness just may be the gift they need at that moment.

Think about your actions and remember that you are God’s blessing at that moment in their life. Your words may not comfort them, but the fact that you are willing to be with them may be just what they need to survive the moment.
